WASHINGTON – While select Senators and White House staff continue to negotiate a package that would provide supplemental funding to Ukraine, 1.1 million Americans are sounding the alarm over hazardous policies that threaten their undocumented spouses. American Families United (AFU) is calling on Senate Democrats and President Biden to reject the xenophobic proposals that are currently being given serious consideration. "They are playing with the real possibility of American children growing up in a home where one parent was removed due to broken immigration policies and the potential that US citizens are not able to grow old and retire in peace because their spouse was unable to adjust status," said Ashley DeAzevedo, President of American Families United. “The President should be using his parole authority to provide relief to the undocumented spouses of US citizens, the Dreamers without DACA, and the long term contributors but once again we are concerned that these communities could be betrayed by the very people who have been making promises to protect them. Expedited removals at the interior will terrorize this community who have already been traumatized by policies like these for years and signify a return to loved ones being persecuted on the way to and from work, school, and home. We are urging Democrats and President Biden to hold the line and stand up for the most vulnerable of constituents.”
