Comment Letter Regarding Ways to Support Successful Completion of the 2025-2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Presidents’ Alliance submitted a comment letter on behalf of 23 organizations and institutions outlining recommendations to improve the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). During the 2024-2025 FAFSA cycle, students from mixed-status immigrant families faced enormous difficulties, including long wait times, technical glitches, and confusing help text. These challenges imposed significant stress on applicants and had a detrimental impact on campuses seeking to enroll and retain qualified students. Looking toward the 2025-2026 cycle, this comment letter builds on the progress made by the Department of Education and provides suggestions for improving the FAFSA process to support the needs of mixed-status families.
